Located in the western part of Tokyo, Okutama is a place where you can meet magnificent mountains and valleys with clear streams that make you forget that you are even in Tokyo.
Would you like to escape from the busy city center and chill out in the Japanese forest? Inhale clear air and relax in a cafe with a magnificent view, superb glamping where you can experience extraordinary life, and a shukubo (inns for monks) surrounded by the nature of Mt. Mitake.
There is no doubt that you can refresh your mind and body in Okutama.
Only 3 Groups a Day – Valley Observation Cafe
The “Valley Observation Cafe” is located in a corner of the long-established inn “Kabutoya Ryokan“, which has been in business for over 400 years and has an impressive thatched roof.
You can also use the cafe only. With the theme of “relaxing is the best luxury“, they have a complete reservation system limited to 3 groups a day to avoid having too many customers in the cafe.
There is a Japanese-style room and a terrace with abundant nature in front of it, and you can hear the quietly swaying forest and the sound of clear streams. The cafe menu uses ingredients grown in-house or without pesticides.
Many drinks are organic, such as “Hinohara Black Tea” cultivated without pesticides in Hinohara Village, fair trade coffee, and herbal tea. They also recommend luxurious non-alcoholic sparkling wine, which is made by removing alcohol from the wine.
As for the food, we recommend the “soup set,” which comes with a set of two types of cake salé with different textures and ingredients and soup. You will enjoy its gentle handmade taste.
Luxuary Glamping – KEIKOKU GLAMPING TENT
At KEIKOKU GLAMPING TENT, you can enjoy high-class glamping in a valley surrounded by the Okutama forest.
There are only two luxury resort-like tents, the 38-square-meter “LUXURY TENT” and the 50-square-meter “SUITE TENT,” which are equipped with canopy beds, toilets, showers, and air conditioning.
From “SUITE TENT” you can go to the private garden of about 200 square meters and the private valley directly from the tent. You can also experience the deep lymph drainage hand massage with clothes on. You can spend a relaxing time with the sound of a little stream.
They also offer several barbecue plans. In addition to plans for tasting domestic ribulose steak, you can also order an additional menu of seafood and shrimp paella, and cheese ahijo.
A Bread that is cooked without additives or preservatives baked in Hinohara Village is served for breakfast. Anniversary cakes are also available for special occasions. Create wonderful and memorable memories in this special space.
Stay in a Shukubo – “Komatori Sanso”
“Komatori Sanso” on Mt. Mitake, where Musashi Mitake Shrine is located, is a shukubo full of nature surrounded by mountains.
Originally, “shukubo” is an inn for monks and worshipers such as Buddhist temples and shrines, but now some shukubo is available for normal customers.
The 10 guest rooms are traditional Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats, alcove, and shoji screens. They are also available for one-person use. Some rooms have an open veranda, while others overlook Yokohama, Enoshima, and the Miura Peninsula.
The cuisine is a delicious Japanese dish using fish caught in Okutama and locally grown vegetables.Vegetarian and vegan food is also available (advance reservation required).
