Nishi Honganji
Nishi Hongwanji, the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji school, was opened by Shinran saints.
Nishi Honganji owns many national treasures such as “Karamon” with splendid carvings of Hiwadabuki and Karahafu, “Hiunkaku”, a three-story tower that is one of the three famous Kinkaku in Kyoto along with the Kinkaku and Ginkaku, and “Mikagedo“, which is outstanding on its size and the glittering inside-decoration.
This shrine is also registered as a World Heritage Site.
