Osorezan Sacred Site
Osorezan is one of Japan’s three most sacred mountains along with Koyasan and Hieizan. It is said that Jikaku Daishi of the Tendai sect of Buddhism opened the mountain in the 4th year of the Jogan era (862). Blood pond hell, felony hell, hell valley, Sainokawara, Gokurakuhama, and Sanzu river, along with the beauty of Lake Usoriyama’s surface that changes color with the seasons, present a unique landscape that makes you feel like you’re in paradise or hell.
