Tenryu-Ji is one of the World Heritage Sites in Kyoto. Its enormous garden, Sogenchi Teien, has a style that features the paths around the ponds with Kameyama and Arashiyama in the background. Sogenchi Teien is also designated as Japan’s first historic site and special place of scenic beauty.

Tenryu-Ji is a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect that used to have Arashiyama, Togetsukyo Bridge, and Kameyama Park on the west side of Tenryu-Ji in the precinct. However, due to repeated large fires and the Uechi Ordinance, it is now one-tenth the size of the time.

The “Unryu-zu” drawn by Matazo Kayama on the ceiling of the Hatto can be seen on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and every day during the special worship period in spring, summer, and autumn.
