ISLAND EXPLORATION -TAKRAJIMA, KOSHIKISHIMA, and AMAMI OSHIMA-
Each island has its own characteristics, and they have something that cities don’t have. To feel their rich nature and meet warm and creative people, we will travel around the three islands that have been attracting many tourists.
-TAKARAJIMA ISLAND-
There are seven manned islands in Toshima Village, the “longest village in Japan” that stretches 160km north and south between Yakushima and Amami Oshima. They are also called unexplored islands because the ferry often gets canceled in bad weather. Takara Island is the southernmost island of them and you can reach it in less than 3 hours from Amami Oshima.
-KOSHIKISHIMA ISLAND-
“Koshiki Fisherman’s Festival” is an event where you can enjoy the seafood of Koshiki Island. At the venue, there are a lot of gourmet foods on the island, such as grilled fresh seafood on skewers and ramen made with sea bream soup stock. When you chew on the freshly baked silver-stripe round herring while talking to the fisherman and talk to fishermen, not only the delicious food but you will realize the charm of the people on this island.
-AMAMI OSHIMA ISLAND-
Amami Oshima Island, located between Kyushu and Okinawa, is the second-largest manned remote island in Japan. On the island, on top of crystal clear beaches, the deep mountains, which are also candidate sites for World Natural Heritage, have a deity that cannot be described simply by the word “beautiful”.
All of these islands are fascinating, so be sure to visit with plenty of time.
