Takayama Jinya

During the Edo period, the local politics and ruling for this area were conducted at Takayama Jinya and government offices, official residences, and warehouses are placed inside the premises.

At the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, there were more than 60 of this kind of government office all over Japan, but the only existing building is the “Takayama Jinya” at that time

In particular, the eight Mikura that stored annual tribute rice are said to be the oldest and largest earthen warehouses throughout Japanese history. A morning market is held every day in the square in front of the gate.
