Shin-Hotaka Ropeway

Shin-Hotaka Ropeway is Japan’s only two-story ropeway and is located in the back of Oku-Hida Onsenkyo.

To the observatory, you need to take two ropeways; the first ropeway from Shinhotaka Onsen Station to Nishihotaka Station at an altitude of 2,156 meters, and then exchange to the second ropeway of the two-story gondola from there.

From the observatory, you can see the mountains of the Northern Alps such as Nishihotakadake and Yarigatake in a large panoramic view. Each season will give you different sceneries and they won’t surely be disappointing.
