Daisetsuzan National Park

Daisetsuzan National Park, located in the central part of Hokkaido, is as large as about 230,000 ha, which makes it the biggest national park in Japan. This park includes vast mountain ranges such as the Tokachidake mountain range and the Ishikari mountain range.

About 250 species of vegetation, which is equivalent to 40% of Japanese alpine plants, inhabit this area. Rare creatures such as Ezonaki rabbits, alpine butterflies, black woodpeckers, and Blakiston’s owls can be observed here.

To enjoy the alpine plants, it is recommended to take the Asahidake Ropeway up to the middle and stroll around the “Sugatami no Ike“.

Not only are alpine plants breathtaking in summer but also leaves are beautifully colored in fall.
