Oomiwa Shrine

Oomiwa Shrine is said to be the oldest shrine in Japan and its history is recorded in both “Kojiki” and “Nihon Shoki”: the existing oldest book in Japan.

There is no main shrine, so you worship toward Mt. Miwa through the Mitsutorii in the back of the worship hall.

As the mountain itself is considered a god, no trees and grasses are allowed to get cut down with an ax since ancient times.
