Tomo no Ura

“Tomo no Ura” is a port town that has prospered since ancient times because the flow of tide changes in this area. During the Edo period, this town flourished as a port of call for Kitamae ships.

The stone night light that stands in the harbor, which is also the symbol of Tomo no Ura, is a lighthouse built in the Edo period, and is one of the largest existing night lights in the Edo period.

In addition, Tomo no Ura is said to be set for the Ghibli movie “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea,” and is also the location for many other movies.

From “Fukuyama” station on the JR Sanyo Main Line, take the Tomo Tetsu Bus bound for Tomo Port for about 30 minutes, and get off at “Tomo no Ura” stop or “Tomo Port” stop.
