Ishiwari-zakura
A huge granite rock with a circumference of 21 meters in the front yard of the Morioka District Court. Edohiganzakura grows from the crack in the center. This cherry tree is said to be 360 years old, with a root circumference of 4.3 meters and a height of 10 meters. It was designated as a national natural monument in 1923. Sweets with this “Ishiwari-zakura” motif are also on sale, and are popular as Morioka’s famous sweets.
