Chikurin’in Temple
Sakamoto, Otsu City, located at the foot of Mt. Hiei, has prospered since ancient times as a town in front of a castle gate.
The area has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings in the country.
Especially Satobō creates a unique townscape of the historical city of Sakamoto.
Satobō is a town of retreat for monks at Enryakuji Temple, and many facilities are still left there.
Former Chikurin’in is one of these villages, and the residence has a garden of about 3,300 m2 to the southwest of the main building, and there are two tea rooms and Azumaya.
The garden with the view of Mt. Hachioji makes good use of its terrain to make a waterfall and an artificial hill to give the garden a seasonal taste.
