■ World Heritage Yoshino-Sakura | Yoshinoyama In Full Bloom

Yoshino
Yoshinoyama, Nara, is one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Japan.
Yoshino’s cherry blossoms, which are closely related to mountain worship, are very different from those planted for cherry blossom viewing.

Its origin is 1300 years ago. At Yoshino and Omine, which were worshiped as the mountains where the gods dwell, En no Gyōja, the founder of Shugendo, sensed the Japanese Buddha “Zao Gongen” at the end of a thousand days of penance. Then, He carved the figure into a cherry tree and worshiped it.

After that, as the story of En no Gyōja and Shugendo became prevalent, the “cherry blossom” engraved with Zao Gongen was regarded as a sacred tree and was planted as a tribute tree at Mt. Yoshino and Kinpusenji (the head temple of Shugendo). The tree has been protected since then, and it attracts people as a famous place for cherry blossoms.

This time, we would like to introduce and “World Heritage Yoshino” as well as the cherry blossoms of Mt. Yoshino and Kinpusenji Temple.
