“Naked visit” is a traditional event that has been held since the Edo period 400 years ago. In 2002, it was listed on an intangible folk cultural property of Hirosaki City as “Onizawa’s visit to Hadaka”.

The ritual in which men are soaked in cold water in a Japanese loincloth is called the “Mizugori ritual.” Before Praying to God, we will remove the impurities and cleanse our mind and body. When the men get out of the barrel with water, they warm up with a bonfire behind the line and keep on repeating this act.

Many audiences fill the precincts every year to see this “Mizugori Ceremony”.
