Information

Tokushima Prefecture is located on the east side of Shikoku, with a size of 107.37km east-west and 79.03km north-south. The prefectural office is located in Tokushima City, bordering Kochi Prefecture in the south and Kagawa Prefecture in the north, and the Pacific Ocean in the east. It is connected to Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture by Onaruto Bridge, and also serves as a gateway to Shikoku when traveling by car from Honshu.

Otsuka Art Museum

From ancient mural paintings to contemporary paintings, about 1,000 world-famous paintings in the collection of more than 190 museums in 26 countries around the world are reproduced in full size on ceramic plates using special technology.
On the appreciation route of about 4 km, there are environmental exhibits that reproduce the ancient ruins and chapels as they are in the local space, and masterpieces such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc. along with the transition of art history. There is also a systematic exhibition on display and a theme exhibition on which representative works drawn by ancient and modern painters are exhibited, so you can experience museums around the world while staying in Japan.
In addition, the exhibition room where you can appreciate all seven “sunflowers” in the vase drawn by Van Gogh is a masterpiece. Furthermore, from June 2020, Leonardo da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermin” will be additionally exhibited. Of the more than a dozen existing paintings by Leonardo, a total of 11 paintings can be viewed in one place. Please enjoy the exhibition unique to the Garden of Fine Arts Kyoto. Seasonal highlights During the period from June to September every year, you can see water lily flowers in the pond that surrounds Monet’s “Great Water Lilies”, which is exhibited outdoors on the B2 floor.

Iyanokazura Bridge

Kazura Bridge in the unexplored region “Iya”, which has the sad story of the Heike clan. Made of A. arguta (weight about 6 tons), it is 45m long, 2m wide and 14m above the surface of the water. It used to be the only transportation facility in the Miyama Valley area. It will be replaced every three years. (February 3, 1955, Nationally Designated Folklore Important Cultural Property)

Naruto Whirlpools

The Naruto Strait is a strait of only 1.3km between Sonzaki in Naruto City and Kadozaki in Awaji Island.

Oboke

Marble sculptures seem to be aroused in the valley created by the water erosion of crystalline schist, and you can enjoy the thrilling boat ride with the cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves in the clear stream.

Sea turtle

In Tokushima, there is “Hamataro”, the oldest sea turtle in the world whose age is known.
The history of research on sea turtles is deep, and the number of sea turtle landings has been counted since the 1950s by local junior high school students and elementary school students on the Ohama beach in Minami town and the Kamouda beach in Anan city.
