Along with Fushimi in Kyoto and Nada in Kobe, the Saijo district of Higashi Hiroshima City is one of the three major sake brewery towns in Japan.

Nine breweries are still brewing around “Saijo Sake Brewery Street” in front of JR Saijo Station.

You can see the unique townscape with red brick chimneys, red tile roofs, and sake breweries with a beautiful contrast between white lacquer and black namako walls.

At the brewery, you can tour and try a sample, and there is also an exhibition / gallery about sake brewing and a direct sales office.

At nearby shops, you can enjoy Saijo sake gourmet such as sweet sake toast, sweet sake milk, and sweets made with sake lees.
