Saikokuji

Saikokuji is one of the prestigious temples in the Shingon sect and the meaning of its name is “the best temple in the West”. The over 2m “Zori” hung on the Niomon are the symbol of this temple and are for the two enshrined statues of Nio, who are said to have strong legs. This temple is also known as a place for praying for health and praying for athletes.

Various festivals such as the New Year’s Fire-Walking Shinto ritual and the festival are also held. Especially in the cherry blossom season, the cherry blossoms planted on the side of the 108 stone steps bloom all at once, allowing many people to enjoy the magnificent view.

From JR Sanyo Main Line “Omichi” station, get off at “Saikokujishita” bus stop, about 5 minutes on foot
